HOLY SPIRIT OR HOLY GHOST

"HOLY SPIRIT" APPEARS ONLY SIX TIMES IN THE KJV OF THE BIBLE!

Psalm 51:3 -  Cast me not away from Thy presence; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.

Isaiah 63:10-11 - But they rebelled, and vexed His Holy Spirit:  therefore He was turned to be their enemy, and He fought against them.  Then He remembered the days of old, Moses, and his people, saying, Where is He that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock?  Where is He that put His Holy Spirit within him?

Luke 11:13 - If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children:  how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?

Ephesians 1:13 - In Whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the Word of truth, the Gospel of your salvation:  in Whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise....

Ephesians 4:30 - And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, by Whom ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

1 Thessalonians 4:8 - He therefore that despises, despises not man, but God, Who has also given unto us His Holy Spirit.

"HOLY GHOST" APPEARS 89 TIMES, ALL IN THE NEW TESTAMENT!
IRONY:  BOTH "SPIRIT" AND "GHOST" ARE FROM THE SAME WORD!

In Hebrew, the word is רוּחַ rûwachwhich means  "a current of air, i.e. a breath or a breeze."
In Greek, the word is πνεῦμα pneûma.   It is the word from which we get the disease pneumonia.  Perhaps the best example is Genesis 2:

Genesis 2:7 -  And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

SO WHY DID THE TRANSLATORS USE TWO WORDS?  BEATS ME!

The most important thing we all need to know, is that because of sin, humans are spiritually dead:  but God has provided The Way (Jn. 14:6) for us to be forgiven of our sins, and to have eternal life with Him!

Ephesians 2:1-10 - And you has He quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience:  among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.  But God, Who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us, even when we were dead in sins, has quickened us together with Christ (by grace ye are saved), and has raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:  that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  not of works, lest any man should boast.  For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God had before ordained that we should walk in them.

THE BEGINNING OF CHRIST'S PUBLIC MINISTRY

THE BEGINNING OF THE EARTHLY MINISTRY OF JESUS CHRIST

Luke 3:1-3, 21-23 - Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene, Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests (A.D. 26), the Word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.  And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. - - - Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art My beloved Son; in Thee I am well pleased.  And Jesus Himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph....

John 1:34-36 - And I (John the Baptist) saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.  Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; and looking upon Jesus as He walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of God!

Mark 1:9-13 - And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.  And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him:  and there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased.  And immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness.  And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto Him.

JESUS CHOSE TWELVE DISCIPLES

Matthew 10:1-7 - And when He had called unto Him His twelve disciples, He gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.  Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; the first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him.  These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:  but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.  And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

CHRIST'S FIRST MIRACLE REVEALED HIS IDENTITY

John 2:1-11- And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:  and both Jesus was called, and His disciples, to the marriage.  And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto Him, They have no wine.  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.  His mother said unto the servants, Whatsoever He says unto you, do it.  And there were set there six water pots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.  Jesus saith unto them, Fill the water pots with water.  And they filled them up to the brim.  And He said unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast.  And they bore it.  When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew); the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, and said unto him, Every man at the beginning does set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse:  but thou have kept the good wine until now.  This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth His glory; and His disciples believed on Him.

A DISCIPLE IS ONE WHO BELIEVES THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST,
TURNS FROM LIVING A LIFE OF SIN,
PUBLICLY CONFESSES FAITH IN HIM BY BEING BAPTIZED,
AND DEDICATES THE REST OF HIS OR HER LIFE,
TO DOING THE LORD'S WILL!

NOTE THE ORDER:  FAITH, BAPTISM, AND SUBMISSION!

SEVEN IMPORTANT TRUTHS FOUND IN MATTHEW 19:4-5!

MATTHEW 19:4-5

And Jesus answered and said unto the Pharisees who had come to find an excuse to reject His teachings, Have you not read, that He Who made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

TWO VERSES - SEVEN IMPORTANT BIBLE DOCTRINES

In these two short verses, Jesus gave us seven important arguments we can use against the enemies of God's Holy Word:

1  The Genesis record is true!  Our Lord quoted first from Genesis 1, and then from Genesis 2.  "Have you not read?"  He expected people to understand and believe the Book of Genesis, and receive it as an authoritative record of what happened at the dawn of human history.

2.  Man did not evolve from lower creatures.  Man was made by an all-wise Creator for a purpose; he is not a freak accident of nature who slowly developed by chance apart from any intelligence.

3.  There were not millions of years before human history began, because the creation of man took place "at the beginning."  This rules out long geological periods prior to man's arrival on earth since man was there at the very beginning.  Indeed, man was made just six days after the earth was created!

4.   There is no gender confusion with God.  When God made man male and female, He did not make a mistake, and gender identity is based on God’s creation, not on man's self-identity.

5.  Marriage is defined as a union between a man and a woman.  And what God has defined, let not man re-define!  Human judges and politicians have no authority to change God's definition of marriage.

6.  The family unit is composed of a father and mother and their offspring.

7.  Marriage results in a new and independent family unit, as the man leaves his father and mother and cleaves to his wife.

These seven doctrines are foundational to understanding why we are here, and they are fundamental to the very structure of our society.  Disregard for these principles will lead to a country's decay, deterioration, and its ultimate destruction.  [This is an edited version of something written by George Zeller: www.middletownbiblechurch.org]

DO NOT LET HERETICAL TEACHINGS ON CREATION, ON GENDER IDENTIFICATION, AND ON GOD'S INTENDED BUILDING BLOCK OF SOCIETY, THE FAMILY, CAUSE YOU TO DOUBT THE ACCURACY OF GOD'S WORD!

DOUBT IS THE OPPOSITE OF FAITH!
FAITH WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY FOR SALVATION!
EPHESIANS 2:8 SAYS:  FOR BY GRACE ARE YOU SAVED THROUGH FAITH; AND THAT NOT OF YOURSELVES:  IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD!
ROMANS 10:17 SAYS:  FAITH COMES FROM HEARING, AND HEARING FROM THE WORD OF GOD!

IN THIS SIN-SICK WORLD, GOOD NEWS IS SO REFRESHING!

Proverbs 25:25 - As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

Acts 13:31-32 - And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, God has fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that He has raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the Second Psalm, Thou art My Son, this day have I begotten Thee.

Romans 1:16-17 - For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ:  for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes;  to the Jew first, and also to the Greek (non-Jew; Gentile).  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Romans 5:8-10 - But God commended (demonstrated) His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 - Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved....For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.

2 Corinthians 5:20-21 - Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us:  we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.  For He has made Him to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  not of works, lest any man should boast.

1 John 5:11-13 - And this is the record, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  He that has (faith in) the Son has life; and he that hath not (faith in) the Son of God has not life.  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may (continue to) believe on the name of the Son of God.

ALL WHO BELIEVE JESUS DIED FOR THEIR SINS TO BE THEIR SAVIOR,
AND THAT HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD TO BE THEIR LORD,
THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THEY CAN KNOW FOR CERTAIN,
THEY ARE THE CHILDREN OF GOD AND HAVE ETERNAL LIFE!

GOD DOES NOT SEND PEOPLE TO HELL!

For all those theological geniuses out there who say there is no hell, or who arrogantly proclaim that for modern man to believe in such an unloving place being created by such an all-loving God, is childish or worse yet, blasphemous, I say let's look at some of what God's Word has to says on the subject of hell.

THE BIBLE HAS A LOT TO SAY ABOUT HELL

To begin, the words translated "hell" in the King James Version of the Bible are as follows:

1. - שְׁאוֹל (shĕ'owl or sheol) - is translated "hell" 31 times, but it is also translated "grave" 31 times!

2. - γέεννα (géenna or gehenna) - is translated "hell" 12 times, including 3 times in combination with πῦρ (pyr), which is translated "fire" or "fiery" 73 times.

3. - ᾅδης (háidēs or hades) - is translated "hell" 10 times, and "grave" once.

4. - ταρταρόω (tartaróō or tar-tar-o'-o) - appears as "hell" only in 2 Peter 2:4.

HELL IS A PLACE OF TORMENT

Luke 16:19-31 - There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:  and there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,  And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table:  moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.  And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom:  the rich man also died, and was buried; and in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeing Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.  And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flameBut Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime received thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things:  but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.  And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed:  so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.  Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou would send him to my father's house:  for I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of tormentAbraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.  And he said, Nay, father Abraham:  but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.  And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

FROM THE FIRE OF HELL TO THE ETERNAL LAKE OF FIRE

Revelation 14:9-11 - And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:  and the smoke of their torment ascends up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receives the mark of his name.

Revelation 20:10-15 - And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and everAnd I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.  And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened:  and another book was opened, which is the book of life:  and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.  And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them:  and they were judged every man according to their works.  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.  This is the second death.  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

WHY WOULD THE LOVING GOD SEND PEOPLE TO HELL?

The answer is, He doesn't!  We are told in 2 Peter 3:9, that God does not want anyone to perish!  He demonstrated His love for mankind by sending His Only Begotten Son to die for the sins of the world (Jn. 3:16; Rom. 5:8; 1 Cor. 15:3-4; 1 Tim. 2:3-4; 1 Jn. 2:2; etc.)!  People send themselves to hell by refusing God's free gift of salvation (Rom. 5:15-18; Eph. 2:8; etc.)!
