RIGHTEOUSNESS REQUIRED; RIGHTEOUSNESS DEFINED!

RIGHTEOUSNESS:  a state of being that satisfies God's standards of holiness and perfection.

GOD'S COMMAND TO BE HOLY!

Ephesians 4:24 - And that you put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

1 Peter 1:16 - Because it is written, You be holy; for I AM holy.

Hebrews 12:14 - Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.

GOD'S COMMAND TO BE PERFECT!

Matthew 5:48 - Be therefore perfect, even as your Father Who is in heaven is perfect.

2 Corinthians 13:11 - Finally, brethren, farewell.  Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 - All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  that the man (child) of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

HOW DOES ONE BECOME RIGHTEOUS, HOLY, AND PERFECT?

Romans 4:3 - For what do the Scriptures say?  Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

2 Corinthians 5:20-21 - Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us:  we pray you in Christ's stead, be reconciled to God.  For He has made Him to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

Galatians 3:6 - Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

James 2:23 - And the Scripture was fulfilled which said, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness:  and he was called the Friend of God.

Philippians 1:3-6 - I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, for your fellowship in the Gospel from the first day until now; being confident of this very thing, that He Who has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ....

Hebrews 13:20-21 - Now the God of peace, Who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that Great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever.  Amen.

HOW DOES ONE BECOME A CHILD OF GOD?

Rom. 10:9-17 as I understand it - If you willingly confess your faith in the Lord Jesus, and you believe with your whole heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart man believes and it is accounted unto him for righteousness (His righteousness, not your own - Mt. 6:33; Rom. 10:1-4; 2 Cor. 5:21); and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, Whosoever believes in Jesus shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the saved Jew and the saved Gentile: for the Lord is rich (in love, mercy, and grace) unto all who call upon Him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.  How then shall they call in Him in Whom they have not believed?  And how shall they believe in Him of Whom they have not heard?  And how shall they hear unless believers share their faith? - - - So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Gospel, the very Word of God.
