JESUS: CRUCIFIED AND RAISED!
1 Corinthians 1:18-25 - For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us who are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where are the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after all, in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe. For the Jews require a sign, and the Gentiles seek after wisdom: but we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling-block, and unto the Greeks foolishness; but unto those who are called, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
Matthew 12:38-42 - Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees (Jews) answered, saying, Master, we desire to see a sign (evidence of Your identity) from You. But He answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas (Jonah): for as Jonas (Jonah) was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh (Gentiles) shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas (Jonah); and, behold, a greater than Jonas (Jonah) is here. The queen of the south (a Gentile) shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
THE JEWS REQUIRE A SIGN!
Some examples of the Lord's power over nature:
Mt. 14:15-21; Mk. 6:35-44; Lk. 9:12-17; Jn. 6:5-15 - Jesus fed the "5000."
Mt. 8:23-27; Mk. 4:35-41; Lk. 8:22-25 - Jesus stilled the storm.
Mt. 14:22-33; Mk. 6:45-52; Jn. 6:16-21 - Jesus walked on water.
Some examples of the Lord's power to heal:
Mt. 8:28-34; Mk. 5:1-20; Lk. 8:26-39 - Jesus cured the demon-possessed.
Mt. 8:1-4; Mk. 1:40-45; Lk. 5:12-15 - Jesus cured the leper.
Mt. 20:29-34; Mk. 10:46-52; Lk. 18:35-43 - Jesus healed blind Bartimaeus.
Some examples of the Lord raising the dead:
Mt. 9:18-26; Mk. 5:22-43; Lk. 8:41-56 - Jesus raised the daughter of Jairus.
Lk. 7:11-16 - Jesus raised the son of the widow of Nain.
Jn. 11:1-45 - Jesus raised Lazarus.
Thomas as an example:
John 20:24-31 - But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into His side, I will not believe. And after eight days again His disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then said He to Thomas, reach here your finger, and behold My hands; and reach here your hand, and thrust it into My side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto Him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed: blessed are those who have not seen, and yet have believed. And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book: but these are written, that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you might have life through His name.
THE GENTILES REQUIRE WISDOM!
1 Corinthians 2:1-5 - And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you, except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech, my preaching, was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace are you saved through faith; and that is not of your own doing: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.
Hebrews 11:1, 6 - Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. . . . But without faith it is impossible to please God: for he who comes to God must believe that He exists, and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him.
Romans 10:17
So then faith comes by hearing,
and hearing by the Word of God.
