IS THE BIBLE THE WORD OF GOD?
The phrase, "the Word of God," appears forty-seven times in the King James Version of the Bible. The phrase, "the Word of the Lord," appears two hundred sixty-three times! The Bible tells us that the faith that saves the lost, comes from hearing and believing the Word of God (Rom. 10:8-17)! Peter wrote that it is the Word of God which, when believed, produces the new birth (1 Pet. 1:23)! The Book of Revelation declares that "The Word of God" is a name for Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God (Rev. 19:13)! Finally, the importance of the Word of God is seen in Psalm 138:2 which reads: I will worship toward Thy holy temple, and praise Thy name for Thy loving kindness and for Thy truth: for You have magnified Thy Word above all Thy name.
DID GOD LIE TO ADAM?
Genesis 2:15-17 - And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat: but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it: for in the day that you eat thereof, you shalt surely die.
Genesis 5:3-5 - And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth: and the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters: And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
NO! GOD DOES NOT LIE, NOR CAN HE!
Numbers 23:19 - God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: has He said, and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken, and shall He not make it good?
Titus 1:1-2 - Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; in hope of eternal life, which God, Who cannot lie, promised before the world began....
THE EXPLANATION, AS IS USUALLY THE CASE, IS FOUND IN THE WORD!
Psalm 90:4 - For a thousand years in Thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
2 Peter 3:8 - But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
ANOTHER FACT IS ALSO TRUE - ADAM DID DIE THAT DAY!
Adam was made in the image and likeness of God (Gen. 1:26). He was sinless at his creation, but when he partook of the forbidden fruit, he sinned and ceased to be like God (Rom. 5:12)! Before he sinned, Adam, like God, was a triune being; he had a living body, a living soul, and a living spirit (1 Thes. 5:23): however, when he sinned, he died spiritually! Because we all, like Adam, sin, we are all spiritually dead! But God will make us alive spiritually, when we believe the Gospel and place our faith in Jesus (Eph. 2:1, 5)!
IT IS THE WORD OF GOD, SPECIFICALLY THE GOSPEL THAT SAVES US!
Romans 1:16 - For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile.
1 Corinthians 15:1-6 - Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures: and that He was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: after that, He was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
HOW NECESSARY IS IT THAT ONE BELIEVE THE WORD OF GOD?
IT CONTAINS THE GOSPEL, THE ONLY MESSAGE THAT CAN SAVE!
