JESUS: THE SON OF MAN

The phrase, "the Son of Man," appears well over two hundred times in the Bible:  of the hundred plus times it is found in the Old Testament, 77 of those references found in the Book of Ezekiel.  It occurs in 88 verses in just the four Gospels of the New Testament. 

 

Psalm 8:1-8 - The Son of Man Foretold

"O LORD our Lord, how excellent is Thy name in all the earth! who hast set Thy glory above the heavens.  Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast Thou ordained strength because of Thine enemies, that Thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.  When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained; what is man, that Thou art mindful of him?  And the Son of Man, that Thou visitest Him? 

For Thou hast made Him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned Him with glory and honor.  Thou madest Him to have dominion over the works of Thy hands; Thou hast put all things under His feet:  all sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; the fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.  O LORD our Lord, how excellent is Thy name in all the earth!"

 

Hebrews 2:1-10 - The Son of Man Identified

"Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.  For if the Word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; how shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard Him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to His own will?  For unto the angels hath He not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.  But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him?  Or the Son of Man, that Thou visitest Him?
Thou madest Him a little lower than the angels; Thou crownedst Him with glory and honor, and didst set Him over the works of Thy hands:  Thou hast put all things in subjection under His feet.  For in that He put all in subjection under Him, He left nothing that is not put under Him.  But now we see not yet all things put under Him.  But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man.  For it became Him, for Whom are all things, and by Whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the Captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings."

Revelation 1:8-18 - The Son of Man in His Glory

 

"I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.  I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the Word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.  I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.  And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; and in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.  His head and His hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and His eyes were as a flame of fire; and His feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and His voice as the sound of many waters.  And He had in His right hand seven stars: and out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and His countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.  And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the First and the Last:  I am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive forevermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death."
