THE SPIRIT OF GOD IN THE OLD TESTAMENT:
Genesis 1:2 - And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit* of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Note: * "Spirit" here is the Hebrew word ruwach, which is translated "Spirit" 232 x; "wind" 92 x; and "breath" 27 times. Examples:
Exodus 14:21 - And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind* all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
2 Samuel 22:16 - And the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were discovered, at the rebuking of the LORD, at the blast of the breath* of His nostrils.
THE SPIRIT OF GOD IN THE NEW TESTAMENT:
Matthew 3:16 - And Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto Him, and He saw the Spirit* of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him....
Note: * "Spirit" here is the Greek pneuma, which is translated "Spirit" 137 x; (Holy) "Ghost" 89 x. It is from the Greek root pneo, which is translated "blow" 5 x; "wind" 1 x. Example:
John 3:1-8 - There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: the same came to Jesus by night, and said unto Him, Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that You do, except God be with Him. Jesus answered (responded) and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto Him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born of water (physical birth) and of the Spirit (Pneuma - spiritual birth), he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit (Pneuma) is spirit (pneuma). Marvel not that I said unto you, You must be born again. The wind (pneuma) blows (pneo) where it listeth (wills), and you hear the sound thereof, but can not tell whence (from where) it comes, and whither (where) it goes: so is every one that is born of the Spirit (Pneuma).
Acts 5:3-4 - But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Ghost (Pneuma), and to keep back part of the price of the land? While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own power? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied unto men, but unto God.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Galatians 5:22-23 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
