JESUS IS LIGHT, BUT MEN PREFER DARKNESS

When Jesus said, "I am The Light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life" (Jn. 8:12), the Jewish people knew He was claiming to be the Messiah!  They were, and we are, very familiar with Isaiah's prophecy concerning the Messiah:

"The people that walked in darkness have seen a Great Light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath The Light shined....For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given:  and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.  Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon His kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.  The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this" (Isa. 9:2, 6-7).

Isaiah also wrote:

"Behold My Servant, whom I uphold; Mine Elect, in Whom My soul delighteth; I have put My Spirit upon Him:  He shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.  He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause His voice to be heard in the street.  A bruised reed shall He not break, and the smoking flax shall He not quench:  He shall bring forth judgment unto truth.  He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till He has set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for His Law.  Thus saith God the LORD, He that created the heavens, and stretched them out; He that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; He that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:  I the LORD have called Thee in righteousness, and will hold Thine hand, and will keep Thee, and give Thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house" (Isa. 42:1-7).

John's Gospel identifies Jesus as "THE LIGHT" in John 1:4-9; 3:19-21; 8:12; 9:5; 11:9-10; 12:35-36, 46!  As "THE LIGHT," He not only reveals the truth, He exposes sin!  There is no place to hide because His light overpowers darkness.  A small candle can illuminate a huge cave!

God's children want to leave the darkness and walk in His light.
