IT IS NOT ABOUT GOD'S LAW; IT IS ABOUT GOD'S LOVE!

THE PURPOSE OF THE OLD TESTAMENT LAW!

The Mosaic Law was given to Moses by God Himself.  It defined God's standard for man's relationship with Him, and with each other.  Jesus summed it up by saying:

Matthew 22:37-40 - . . . You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like unto it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.

James referred to the second most important commandment as the Royal Law; today, it is commonly known as the Golden Rule.  James wrote:

James 2:8 - If you fulfill the Royal Law according to the Scripture, You shall love your neighbor as yourself, you do well.

The Apostle Paul also wrote about the fulfillment of God's requirement to meet His standard:

Galatians 5:13-14 - For, brethren, you have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.  For all the Law is fulfilled in one word (statement), even in this; You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Based upon these statements, all sin is a lack of love for God and/or one's fellow man.  

THE LAW WAS GIVEN TO REVEAL OUR INABILITY TO LIVE

A HOLY LIFE, AND OUR NEED FOR A SAVIOR!

Unfortunately, no man, with the exception of Jesus (see 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 4:15), has ever been able to put God and others first.  Clearly, we need some way to be forgiven, and be made pure.  Paul offers us an explanation and the Good News (the Gospel) on how God has cleansed us of sin:

1 Corinthians 15:1-6 - Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached unto you, which also you have received, and wherein you stand; by which also you are saved . . . For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures:  and that He was seen by Peter, then by the twelve:  after that, He was seen by more than five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some have died.

Galatians 3:22-26 - . . . the Scripture has concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.  But before faith came, we were kept under the Law, shut up from the faith which should afterwards be revealed.  Wherefore the Law was our school-master to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.  But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a school-master.  For you are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

GOD IS LOVE, AND HE OFFERED HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON TO DIE IN ORDER TO PAY FOR OUR LACK OF LOVE (OUR SIN).  ALL WHO HAVE FAITH THAT GOD LOVES THEM, AND THAT JESUS DIED FOR THEM, HAVE ETERNAL LIFE, A LIFE WHICH SHALL BE SPENT WITH GOD HIMSELF!                TRUST HIM TODAY!
