BEWARE!
ALWAYS CHECK THE WORDS OF MAN
WITH THE WORDS OF GOD!
I have seen many posts on the internet that seem to be biblical, but are contrary to the teachings found in God's Word, the Holy Bible. Sometimes, the issue is the writer accepts as fact what others have written, without taking the time to verify their statements. Sometimes, religious traditions have been accepted as being biblical, because they have been accepted as truth for centuries. And while I will not state that the motive of any particular writer is to deliberately deceive, I will not hesitate to tell you that there are thousands who are guilty of just that. Regardless of why the writing errs from the truth, if it does, it needs to be rejected, and the writer should be confronted. Some examples:
Matthew 2:1, 11 - The Bible does not tell us how many wise men there were; there were three gifts.
Matthew 2:11 - When the Magi arrived at Bethlehem, Jesus was not in a manger, but was in a house.
Matthew 2:16 - Jesus was no longer a babe, but was a young child (most likely about one year old).
Matthew 1:25; 13:55-56 - Mary was a virgin before the birth of Jesus; she later had children by Joseph.
Matthew 18:10 - "Guardian angels" are not watching over us; they are awaiting God's instructions.
Acts 15:13-22 - Peter was not the first Pope. He didn't even lead the Church in Jerusalem.
YHVH: WITH VOWELS ADDED = YEHOVAH!
Many writers give us lists of names for God that are not biblical. Because there is no "J" and no "W" in the Hebrew, the correct spelling, with the vowels added is "YeHoVaH. There are only three names that are connected with Yehovah in the King James Version; they are:
Genesis 22:13-14 - And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
Exodus 17:15-16 - And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi: for he said, Because the LORD has sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.
Judges 6:23-24 - And the LORD said unto him, Peace be unto you; fear not: you shall not die. Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovah-shalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abi-ezrites.
In fact, the name YeHoVaH appears a total of only seven times in the entire Bible! The remaining four are:
Exodus 6:2-3 - And God spoke unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: and I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by My name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.
Psalm 83:17-18 - Let them be confounded and troubled forever; yes, let them be put to shame, and perish: that men may know that You, Whose name alone is JEHOVAH, are the most high over all the earth.
Isaiah 12:1-2 - And in that day you shall say, O LORD, I will praise You: though You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, and You comforted me. Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; He also is become my salvation.
Isaiah 26:4-5 - Trust in the LORD forever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength: for He brings down those who dwell on high; the lofty city, He lays it low; He lays it low, even to the ground; He brings it even to the dust.
BOTTOM LINE: ALWAYS BE A BEREAN!
Acts 17:10-11 - And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming there, went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the Word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
