WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EVERLASTING LIFE AND ETERNAL LIFE?

EVERLASTING LIFE

"Everlasting life" is mentioned eleven times in the King James Version of the Bible:  once in the Old Testament (Dan. 12:2), and ten times in the New Testament (Mt. 19:29; Jn. 3:16, 36; 4:14; 5:24; 6:27, 40, 47; Acts 13:46; and Rom. 6:22).  "Life everlasting" is mentioned four times in the New Testament:  Lk. 18:30; Jn. 12:50; Gal. 6:8; and 1 Tim. 1:16.

"Everlasting life" may be defined as spiritual life beginning at a single point of time, and lasting forever.  The Gospel of John describes when everlasting life begins:

John 3:5-8 - "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born of water (physical birth which ends in death - Heb. 9:27) and of the Spirit (spiritual birth which never ends - Jn. 11:25), he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  Marvel not that I said unto you, You must be born again.  The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound thereof, but can not tell from where it comes, or where it goes:  so is every one who is born of the Spirit."

ETERNAL LIFE

Only God is eternal!  So then, how is it that the Bible says believers have eternal life?  "Eternal life" is mentioned in twenty-six verses in the New Testament:  Mt. 19:16; Mk. 10:17, 30; Lk. 10:25; 18:18; Jn. 3:15; 5:39; 6:54, 68; 10:28; 17:2; Acts 13:48; Rom. 2:7; 5:21; 6:23; 1 Ti. 6:12, 19; Ti. 1:2; 3:7; 1 Jn. 1:2; 2:25; 3:15; 5:11, 13, 20; and Ju. 1:21.

"Eternal life" may be defined as the life one has by being "in Christ."  Christ, being God (see Ex. 3:14 with Jn. 8:58; Is. 7:14 with Mt. 1:23; Is. 9:6; Jn. 1:1, 14; 10:30; 20:28; Ph. 2:6; Heb. 1:2-3; etc.), is eternal, and as such, life in Him is eternal life (Jn. 1:4)!

1 John 5:11, 13, 20 - And this is the record, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son . . . . These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may (with confidence, continue to) believe on the name of the Son of God . . . . And we know that the Son of God is come, and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is true, and we are in Him that is true, even in His Son Jesus Christ.  This is the true God, and eternal life.

DEATH

The opposite of life is death.  Before a person comes to faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, he or she is said to be spiritually dead:

Ephesians 2:1, 5And you has He quickened (made alive), who were (spiritually) dead in trespasses and sins . . . . Even when we were (spiritually) dead in sins, has quickened (made alive) us together with Christ....

Jesus told the religious leaders, who hated Him, that He was (and still is) the I AM of Exodus 3:14, and that unless they believed in Him, they would die in their sins:

John 8:24, 28, 58 - I said therefore unto you, that you shall die in your sins:  for if you believe not that I AM He,* you shall die in your sins . . . . Then said Jesus unto them, When you have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know that I AM He,* and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father has taught Me, I speak these things . . . . Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM.  [* The word "He" is not in the Greek texts!]

Those who reject Jesus as Lord and Savior are destined for everlasting "death":

Revelation 20:10, 14-15 - And the devil that deceived them was cast into the Lake of Fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever . . . . And death and hell were cast into the Lake of Fire.  This is the second death.  And whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the Lake of Fire.

JESUS IS COMING BACK TO GET BELIEVERS;
YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE LEFT BEHIND!!!!!!!
