WORSHIP AND SERVE YOUR LORD!
Matthew 4:10 - Then said Jesus unto him, Get thee hence,* Satan: for it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.
*Note: Get thee hence (see Mt. 16:23 and Lk. 4:8 which read "Get thee behind Me" - all three are from the Greek hypago meaning "you go away!" or in today's vernacular, "Get out of My face!")
Matthew 6:24 - No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.*
*Note: "Mammon" (Greek mamonas meaning "riches"). Here, the Lord contrasted the love of God versus the love of riches; He could just as well have used anyone or anything to make His point: God alone is your Lord, or He is not!
EVEN THE HEATHEN SHOULD KNOW
WORSHIP AND SERVICE GO TOGETHER!
Deuteronomy 4:16-19 - Lest you corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flies in the air, the likeness of any thing that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth: and lest you lift up your eyes unto heaven, and when you see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, should be driven to worship and serve them, which the LORD God has divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.
Deuteronomy 8:19 - And it shall be, if you do at all forget the LORD God, and walk after other gods, and serve and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish.
Note: See also Deuteronomy 11:16; 17:3; 29:26; 30:17; etc.
Romans 1:24-25 - Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, Who is blessed forever. Amen.
CHRISTIANS ARE NOT SAVED BY EITHER
WORSHIP OR WORKS: IT IS BY FAITH;
BUT WE ARE SAVED TO SERVE GOD!
Ephesians 2:8-10 - For by grace (God's unearnable; unmeritable favor) are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.
Titus 2:11-14 - For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; looking for that Blessed Hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
