And what about churches which claim to teach the truth? The vast majority teach a false Gospel, adding works as a requirement for salvation (Gal. 1:6-9; Eph. 2:8-9). And we should never forget the Parable of the Tares, which teaches there are false believers in the churches (Mt. 13:24-30, 37-43); the Parable of the Mustard Seed, which teaches that the church will grow so large that Satan's minions will "nest in its branches" (Mt. 13:4, 19, 31-32); the Parable of the Leaven, which teaches that eventually, false doctrine will permeate the visible church (13:33; 16:11-12); and the Parable of the Net, which describes the gathering of the members of the churches and casting out those who are like the "tares" (Mt. 13:47-50). It seems that "truth" is more rare than gold, silver, or precious stones (1 Cor. 3:8-15).
And yet, the search for the truth is not new. When Pontius Pilate asked Jesus, "Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the Truth. Every one that is of the Truth heareth My voice. Pilate saith unto Him, What is truth?" (Jn. 18:37-38). I would ask you the same question.
The Word of God answers the question, at least for the born again believer:
* The Father is true (Jn. 3:33; Rom. 3:4; 2 Cor. 1:18)!
* The Son is true (Jn. 1:17; 14:6; Eph. 4:21)!
* The Spirit is true (Jn. 14:17; 15:26; 16:13; 1 Jn. 2:27; 5:6)!
* The Word is true (Ps. 119:160; Jn. 17:17; Rom. 10:17)!
* The genuine Prophets of God spoke the truth (1 Kg. 17:24).
* The true Apostles of God spoke the truth (Eph. 4:11-15).
When Adam sinned, his sin was in his failure to believe God. He let Satan cause him to doubt God's Word. Nothing has changed. Satan, and all that are his, make every effort to get mankind to doubt God's Word. You need to know the Truth, for only the Truth can set you free (Jn. 8:32)!
Thank God that we, born again believers, have the Spirit of Truth living in us!
