MOSES: A PICTURE OF THE COMING MESSIAH!

SOME PARALLELS BETWEEN 

THE LIFE OF MOSES AND THE LIFE OF JESUS!

THE POLITICAL LEADER SOUGHT TO KILL THE CHILD!

MOSES:  Exodus 1:15-16 -  And the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:  and he said, When you do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then you shall kill him:  but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.
JESUS:  Matthew 2:16 - Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

THE CHILD IS PROTECTED IN EGYPT!

MOSES:  Exodus 2:8-9 - And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother.  And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will (pay you). And the woman took the child, and nursed it.
JESUS:  Matthew 2:13 - And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and His mother, and flee into Egypt, and (stay) there until I bring you word:  for Herod will seek the young child to destroy Him.

BOTH WERE SENT TO RESCUE THE  JEWISH PEOPLE!

MOSES:  Exodus 3:10 - Come now therefore, and I will send you unto Pharaoh, that you may bring forth My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.
JESUS:  Matthew 1:21 - And she shall bring forth a son, and you shall call His name JESUS:  for He shall save His people from their sins.

BOTH LEFT THEIR ROYAL STATUS TO BE LIKE THE PEOPLE!

MOSES:  Hebrews 11:24-25 - By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season.
JESUS:  Philippians 2:5-7 - Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:  but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.

BOTH FASTED FOR FORTY DAYS!

MOSES:  Exodus 24:17-18 - And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.  And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and got him up into the mount:  and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.
JESUS:  Matthew 4:1-2 - Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.  And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He was afterward hungry.

BOTH IDENTIFIED BY SIGNS!

MOSES:  Exodus 4:2-5 - And the LORD said unto him, What is that in your hand? And he said, A rod.  And He said, Cast it on the ground.  And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.  And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth your hand, and take it by the tail.  And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:  that they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared unto you.
JESUS:  Acts 2:22 - You men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by Him in the midst of you, as you yourselves also know.

BOTH OFFERED THEIR LIVES AS AN ATONEMENT FOR THE PEOPLE!

MOSES:  Exodus 33:30-32 - And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, You have sinned a great sin:  and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.  And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people has sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.  Yet now, if You will forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray, out of Your book which You have written.
JESUS:  Romans 5:11; Titus 2:13-14 - And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by Whom we have now received the atonement - - - Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

BOTH DIED AND WERE BURIED!

MOSES:  Deuteronomy 34:1-6 - And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho.  And the LORD showed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan, and all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea, and the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar.  And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I swore unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto their seed:  I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over thither.  So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the Word of the LORD.  And He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Beth-peor. . . .  JESUS:  1 Corinthians 15:1-4 - Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached unto you, which also you have received, and wherein you stand; by which also you are saved . . . For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried. . . . 

BUT THAT IS WHERE THE SIMILARITY ENDS!!!

MOSES:  Deuteronomy 34:6 - . . . . but no man knows of his sepulcher unto this day.
JESUS:  1 Corinthians 15:4-6 - . . . . and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures:  and that He was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:  after that, He was seen by more than five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some have died.

JESUS IS ALIVE!!!

Hebrews 7:22-25 - By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.  And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:  but this Man, because He continues ever, has an unchangeable priesthood.  Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever lives to make intercession for them.
Revelation 1:12-18 - And I turned to see the voice that spoke with me.  And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; and in the midst of the seven candlesticks One like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.  His head and His hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and His eyes were as a flame of fire; and His feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and His voice as the sound of many waters.  And He had in His right hand seven stars:  and out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword:  and His countenance was as the sun shining in its strength.  And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead.  And He laid His right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I AM the first and the last:  I AM He that lives, and was dead; and, behold, I AM alive for evermore, Amen . . . .
Revelation 19:11-16 - And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He does judge and make war.  His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns; and He had a name written, that no man knew, but He Himself.  And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood:  and His name is called The Word of God.  And the armies which were in heaven followed Him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.  And out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations:  and He shall rule them with a rod of iron:  and He treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.  And He has on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS!
