ADAM AND EVE WERE ORIGINALLY CREATED IN THE LIKENESS OF GOD!
Genesis 1:26-27 - And God said, Let Us make man (mankind) in Our image, after Our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them.
Genesis 5:1-2 - This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man (mankind), in the likeness of God made He him; male and female created He them; and blessed them....
BUT SOMETHING HAPPENED AND MAN CEASED TO BE LIKE GOD!
Genesis 3:1-8 - Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, has God said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. And the serpent said unto the woman, You shall not surely die: for God knows that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
[Notes: First of all, Eve adds to God's Word by stating she would die if she touched the fruit. Once she touched it and did not die, she ceased to believe God. Doubting the LORD's Word, she no longer feared His warning, and she ate. And Eve, like most sinners, desired to entice Adam to join her in her rebellion (compare Rom. 1:32).
Second, for those who like to point out that Adam and Eve did not die that very day, I have two things you should consider: one, they did die spiritually the instant they rebelled; and two, although Adam lived to be 930 years old (Gen. 5:5), he did not live to be a thousand! The Word says that to God, a day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years is as a day (2 Pet. 3:8)!]
GOD IS PERFECT, RIGHTEOUS, AND HOLY!
Psalm 71:19 - Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, Who has done great things: O God, who is like unto Thee!
Psalm 113:5 - Who is like unto the LORD our God, Who dwells on high?
Psalm 18:30 - God is perfect!
Matthew 5:48 - Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
MAN IS NOT PERFECT, RIGHTEOUS, OR HOLY!
Genesis 5:3 - And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth.
Romans 3:10 - As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one!
Romans 3:23 - All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God!
GOD KNEW BEFORE CREATION THAT MAN WOULD REBEL,
AND HE PROVIDED A WAY FOR US TO BE LIKE HIM!
John 3:14-17 - And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
1 Corinthians 15:1-6 - Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel (the Good News) . . . by which also you are saved, if you keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless you have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures: and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve: after that, He was seen by more than five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep (have died).
2 Corinthians 5:20-21 - Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be reconciled to God. For He has made Him to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.
1 John 3:1-2 - Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the children of God: therefore the world knows us not, because it knew Him not. Beloved, now are we the children of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM; for we shall see Him as He is.
TRUST IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND
YOU WILL ONE DAY BE LIKE HIM!
