THE FIRST HALF OF THE TRIBULATION
Revelation 11:1-2 - And there was given me* a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple* of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles:* and the holy city* shall they tread under foot forty and two months.*
Notes:
"me" - the Apostle John.
"the temple" - the future Temple of Ezekiel 40-48.
"the Gentiles" - a set and limited time period - see Luke 21:24.
"The holy city" - Jerusalem - Nehemiah 11:1.
"Forty and two months" is exactly one half of the seven-year covenant between the Antichrist and the nations - Daniel 9:27 - this is confirmed in the same period being 1260 days - Revelation 11:3; 12:6; 42 months - Revelation 11:2; 13:5; a time, times, and a half time - Daniel 7:25; 12:7; Revelation 12:14; the Jewish year consists of 360 days.
Revelation 11:3-12 - And I will give power unto My two witnesses*, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days*, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the god of the earth*, And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth (shall proceed) out of their mouth, and devoureth (devour) their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth (ascends) out of the bottomless pit* shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth. And after three days and an half, the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.
Notes:
"two witnesses" - I believe these two witnesses are Enoch and Elijah. Neither died (Genesis 5:24; 2 Kings 2:11), and the Word says that "...it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27).
"a thousand two hundred and three score days" - see the last note above.
"the god of the earth" - Satan - Matthew 4:8-10; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Compare Revelation 13:3-4 with Revelation 12:9 and 20:2.
"the beast that ascendeth (ascends) out of the bottomless pit" - Again, this is Satan (Revelation 20:1-3).
THE SECOND HALF OF THE TRIBULATION
SEE REVELATION 13 - 18!
Notes:
The Church will not be present upon the earth during the Tribulation (Daniel's Seventieth Week - Daniel 9:24-27; The Time of Jacob's (Israel's) Trouble - Jeremiah 30:7). Notice that Revelation Chapters Two and Three describe the "Church Age": they describe "the things which are" (Revelation 1:19) in John's day. The Tribulation is described in Chapters 6 - 18, with the end of the seven years seeing the Second Coming of Jesus Christ (Revelation 19)! The Church will be removed by the Rapture (catching away) before the Tribulation takes place (John 14:1-3; 1 Thessalonians 1:10; 4:13-18; 5:9; and Revelation 4:1 - "the things which shall be hereafter: (Compare Revelation 1:19 with 4:1).
WARNING!
BASED UPON THE SIMILARITY OF THE CHARACTER OF UNSAVED MANKIND TODAY, WITH THAT OF MANKIND DURING THE DAYS OF NOAH AND LOT (Luke 17:26-29), I WOULD SAY THE JUDGMENT OF GOD, THE TRIBULATION, IS ABOUT TO BE POURED OUT ON THIS WORLD! THOSE WHO HAVE ACCEPTED JESUS AS THEIR LORD AND SAVIOR, WILL NOT EXPERIENCE THE HORROR THAT IS COMING. IF YOU DO NOT PLACE YOUR FAITH IN JESUS BEFORE IT HAPPENS, MAY GOD HAVE PITY ON YOUR SOUL!
