Okay, Jesus is "the only begotten Son of God"; so what does that mean? Well, the religious leaders who opposed Jesus throughout His earthly ministry, knew the implications of Him being called the "Son of God." We read, "But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God" (Jn. 5:17-18). The Apostle Paul confirmed that Jesus understood that He was, in fact, equal to the Father; he wrote, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God" (Phil. 2:5-6).
Die-hard opponents of Christianity are quick to say that Jesus never claimed to be the Son of God, and that Christians are as foolish as those who believe the Greek and Roman myths about the gods mating with mankind. There are dozens of verses that make the claim that Jesus is the Son of God. Let's look at what Jesus said:
"Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? He answered and said, Who is He, Lord, that I might believe on Him? And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen Him, and it is He that talketh with thee. And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped Him" (Jn. 9:35-38).
Like this man, when you truly meet the Son of God, you will worship Him!
