And yet, He did tell His disciples that there would be signs of His return. Jesus said: "Now learn a parable of the fig tree; when her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near: so ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors" (Mk. 13:28-29).
Most theologians believe "the fig tree" in Scripture, is a symbol of Israel, and that the phrase, "puts forth her leaves," refers to Israel becoming a nation again. The United Nations declared Israel to be a nation in A.D 1948. So, the first clue that Christ's Second Coming is very near, occurred sixty-six years ago. According to God's Word, a generation is approximately seventy years (Ps. 90:10). Ironically, in the same passage quoted above, Jesus made this statement: "Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but My words shall not pass away" (Mk. 13:30-31).
More clues are found in the signs Jesus called the "the beginning of sorrows." Jesus said:
"For many shall come in My name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for My name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this Gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come" (Mt. 24:5-14).
If you have a television, you know these things are happening today!
Christ could return at any moment; accept Him as your Lord while there is still time!
