Matthew 5:22 - "But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, 'Raca,' shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, 'Thou fool,' shall be in danger of hell fire."
"Thou fool" is from the Greek μωρός (mōros), which means one who is "impious, godless, one in rebellion against God!" It is basically accusing someone of being spiritually unworthy of life. In other words, assuming the role of the Judge of souls: that is, God Himself! It is blasphemy! The same word appears in:
1 Corinthians 3:18-19 - "Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness."
The following verses are translated from different Hebrew and Greek words and do not have the same meaning:
Psalm 14:1 - "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good."
Psalm 53:1 - "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good."
Psalm 92:5-6 - "O LORD, how great are Thy works! And Thy thoughts are very deep. A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this."
Proverbs 1:7 - "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction."
Proverbs 10:23 - "It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom."
Proverbs 12:15 - "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise."
Proverbs 14:9 - "Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favor."
Proverbs 23:9 - "Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words."
Proverbs 26:11 - "As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly."
Proverbs 28:26 - "He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered."
Romans 1:21-22 - "Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools...."
Ephesians 5:16-17 - "See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil."
