WHAT DO CHRISTIANS MEAN BY "SAVED?"

One of the most common terms used by the Church is the word "saved."  The Greek word translated "saved" is σῴζω (sōzō), which means "rescued," "preserved," "kept safe."  The Bible says that we are saved by faith, and that our faith comes from hearing and believing the Word of God (Ephesians 2:8; Romans 10:17).  But what part of the Word of God, after all, it is a massive volume?  The answer to that is found in Romans 1:16 which says that the Gospel message is the very power of God which, when believed, produces salvation.  The Gospel is found in its simplest form in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Paul wrote, "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures...."  Much about being "saved" can be gleaned from these ten verses:

John 3:17 - "For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved."

Acts 2:21 - "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved."

Acts 16:31 - "And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved...."

Romans 8:24 - "For we are saved by hope:  but hope that is seen is not hope:  for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for it?"

Romans 10:9 - "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

Romans 10:13 - "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

1 Corinthians 1:18 - "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us who are saved it is the power of God."

Ephesians 2:8 - "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves:  it is the gift of God."

2 Timothy 1:9 - "Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began."

Titus 3:5 - "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us...."

AND TURNED YOUR LIFE OVER TO JESUS?
