JESUS CHRIST: "SON OF MAN"
BORN OF A HUMAN MOTHER!
Jesus identified Himself as the "Son of man" eighty-nine times in the four Gospels. The remainder of the New Testament addresses Him as such only eight times. And if there is any debate as to the identity of the "Son of man," Acts 7:55-56 should remove all doubt. Stephen, about to be stoned to death, and filled with the Holy Spirit (and therefore able to only speak truth), is quoted thusly:
Acts 7:55-56 - But he (Stephen), being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.
The Book of Isaiah had prophesied that the Messiah, Immanuel, would be born of a virgin: the fulfillment of this prophecy is found in the Book of Matthew:
Isaiah 7:14 - Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
Matthew 1:18-23 - Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as His mother Mary was espoused (engaged) to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily (divorce her privately). But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto you Mary your wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and you shalt call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel (Immanuel is the Hebrew spelling), which being interpreted is, God with us.
JESUS CHRIST: "THE SON OF GOD"
BORN OF HIS FATHER, ALMIGHTY GOD!
Jesus is addressed as the "Son of God" forty times in the four Gospels, and thirty-four times in the remainder of the New Testament. His deity is stated many times; here are a few:
Matthew 16:15-17 - He (Jesus) said unto them, But Whom do you say that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, you are blessed, Simon Barjona (son of Jonah): for flesh and blood has not revealed it unto you, but My Father Who is in heaven.
Mark 1:1 - The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God....
Mark 3:11-12 - And the unclean spirits, when they saw Him, fell down before Him, and cried, saying, You are the Son of God. And He straitly (immediately) charged them that they should not make Him known.
Luke 1:35 - And the angel answered and said unto her (Mary), The Holy Ghost shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you: therefore also that Holy Child Who shall be born of you shall be called the Son of God.
John 1:29, 32-34 - The next day John saw Jesus coming unto him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world. - - - And John bore record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abided upon Him. And I did not know Him: but He Who sent me to baptize with water, the Same said unto me, Upon Whom you shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, the same is He Who baptizes with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
John 3:16-18 - For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved. He that believes on Him is not condemned: but he that does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the Only Begotten Son of God.
ONE MIGHT ASK HOW THE SON OF GOD
BECAME THE SON OF MAN: PAUL TELLS US!
Philippians 2:5-11 - Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but He made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also has highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
