JOHN'S MESSAGE: BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD!

The Apostle John lived many years past the Resurrection of Christ, and is known for recognizing the deity of Christ.  Today, I would like to look at John's Gospel, and his use of the word "believe." Together with his First Epistle, he used the word "believe" 93 times!  "Believe," which is translated from the Greek πιστεύω (pisteuō), occurs 264 times in 220 verses in the New Testament.  I would define "believe" as:  to be so persuaded of the validity of something, or being certain that what one has been told, is true.  In order to believe a person's testimony, one has to have faith in the character of the witness!  Here are a few verses John wants his readers to believe:

John 2:22 - "When therefore He was risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said."
John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 4:42 - "And (the Samaritans) said unto the woman, Now we believe...and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world."
John 5:24 - "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My Word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."
John 6:69 - "And we believe and are sure that Thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God." 
John 8:24 - "I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I AM, ye shall die in your sins."
John 9:35-38 - "Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?  He answered and said, Who is He, Lord, that I might believe on Him?  And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen Him, and it is He that talketh with thee.  And he said, Lord, I believe.  And he worshipped Him."  
John 11:25-27 - "Jesus said unto her, I AM the resurrection, and the life:  he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:  and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die. Believest thou this?  She saith unto Him, Yea, Lord:  I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world."
John 20:27-31 - "Then saith He to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold My hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into My side:  and be not faithless, but believing.  And Thomas answered and said unto Him, My Lord and my God.  Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.  And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book:  but these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name."
