OUR REPENTANCE IS THE RESULT OF FAITH IN HIS REMISSION

THE NEED FOR REPENTANCE IN THE GOSPELS

John the Baptist:
Matthew 3:1-2 - In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, and saying, "Repent ye:  for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

Jesus Christ:
Matthew 4:17 - From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, "Repent:  for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
Matthew 9:12-13 - But when Jesus heard that, He said unto them, "They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.  But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice:  for I am...come to call...sinners to repentance."
Matthew 21;28-29 - (An illustration of repentance) "...A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work today in my vineyard.  He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went."
Luke 15:10 - "Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth."
Luke 24:47 - "...REPENTANCE and REMISSION of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.  [Note:  Not just to Jews but to Gentiles as well!]

THE NEED FOR REPENTANCE IN THE EARLY CHURCH

The Apostle Peter:
Acts 2:36-38 - "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, Whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ."  Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?"  Then Peter said unto them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the Remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
Acts 3:19 - "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out...."
Acts 11:18 - When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, "Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life."
2 Peter 3:9 - "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."

The Apostle Paul:
Acts 17:30 - "And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent...."  [Note:  Not just Jews, but also Gentiles!]
Acts 20:21 - (Paul was) "Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the (Gentiles), repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ."  [Note:  Paul also preached repentance to all!]
Acts 26:20 - But (Paul) showed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance."  [Note:  Again Paul preached repentance to all men!]
Romans 2:4 - "Or despisest thou the riches of His goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?"
2 Corinthians 7:10 - "For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of:  but the sorrow of the world worketh death."

The Writer of Hebrews:
Hebrews 6:1-2 - "Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment."

THE NEED FOR REPENTANCE TODAY

Romans 10:9-13 (SLV) - "...if you are willing to verbally confess your faith in the Lord Jesus, and sincerely believe in your heart that God, His Father, raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart, man believes and is declared righteous; and with his mouth, confession of his faith in Him, results in salvation.  For the Scripture says, Whosoever truly believes in Him will not be ashamed.  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Gentile:  for He is Lord over all, and is generous to all that call upon Him.  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved!"
