WHAT DOES "THE LORD GOD" REPRESENT?

יְהֹוָה Yĕhovah-אֱלֹהִים 'elohiym  THE LORD GOD  κύριος kyrios-θεός theos

יְהֹוָה Yĕhovah-אֱלֹהִים 'elohiym  "The LORD God" appears 469 times in the Old Testament.  It is first found beginning in Genesis 2:4, with the last being in Zechariah 9:14

κύριος kyrios-θεός theos "The Lord God" only appears in eight verses in the New Testament.  They are as follows:

Luke 1:32 - "He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest:  and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David...."

Luke 1:68 - "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for He hath visited and redeemed His people...."

1 Peter 3:15 - "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear...."

Revelation 18:8 - "Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire:  for strong is the Lord God Who judgeth her."

Revelation 19:6 - "And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia:  for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth."

Revelation 21:22 - "And I saw no temple therein:  for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it."

Revelation 22:5-6 - "And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light:  and they shall reign forever and ever.  And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true:  and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show unto His servants the things which must shortly be done."

It is quite awesome that this phrase is connected with Creation in the first book of the Bible, and with Eternity in the last!  The Bible is all about God, and the outworking of His plan to redeem all who will trust in His Beloved Son!  We must also be amazed that our God is a Triune Being.  The Hebrew word for God is plural!  I believe where יְהֹוָה Yĕhovah appears by itself in the text, it is speaking of a pre-incarnate appearance of Jesus.  The reason is, there are two passages in the Old Testament which declare that individuals saw the face of God (Genesis 32:30 and Judges 13:22).  And yet, Jesus declared that no man has ever seen His Father (John 1:18 and 1 John 4:12)!  That they had seen Jesus can be seen by comparing these passages:

Psalm 110:1 - "The LORD said unto My Lord, Sit Thou at My right hand, until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool."

Matthew 22:44 - "The LORD said unto My Lord, Sit Thou on My right hand, till I make Thine enemies Thy footstool?"

Luke 20:42-43 - "And David himself saith in the Book of Psalms, The LORD said unto My Lord, Sit Thou on My right hand, till I make Thine enemies Thy footstool."

Acts 2:34-35 - "For David is not ascended into the heavens:  but he saith himself, The LORD said unto My Lord, Sit Thou on My right hand, until I make Thy foes Thy footstool."
