THE CHANGE IN THE GOSPEL'S TARGET AUDIENCE

THE GOSPELS FORETOLD OF THE SALVATION OF THE GENTILES

Matthew 12:18, 20 - "Behold My Servant, Whom I have chosen; My Beloved, in Whom My soul is well pleased:  I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He shall show judgment to the Gentiles....And in His name shall the Gentiles trust."

Luke 2:28-32 - "Then took he Him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now let Your servant depart in peace, according to Your Word:  for my eyes have seen Your salvation, which You have prepared before the face of all people; a Light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel."

THE RECORD OF THE CHANGE IN FOCUS FROM JEWS TO THE GENTILES

Acts 9:11-13 - "Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he has done to Your saints at Jerusalem:  and here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on Your name.  But the Lord said unto him, Go your way:  for he is a chosen vessel unto Me, to bear My name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel...."

Acts 10:42-45 - "And He commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is He Who was ordained of God to be the Judge of (the living and the) dead.  To Him give all the prophets witness, that through His name whosoever believes in Him shall receive remission of sins.  While Peter yet spoke these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all those who heard the Word.  And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost."

Acts 11:1, 18 - "And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the Word of God....When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then has God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life."

Acts 13:46-48 - "Then Paul and Barnabas (were emboldened), and said, It was necessary that the Word of God should first have been spoken to you (who are Jews):  but seeing you put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.  For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set you to be a light of the Gentiles, that you should be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.  And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the Word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed."

Acts 15:12-14 - "Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.  And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:  Simeon has declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for His name."

Acts 18:4-6 - "And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the (Gentiles).  And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the Spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.  And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean:  from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles."

Acts 26:15-20 - "And I said, Who are You, Lord?  And He said, I AM Jesus Whom you persecute.  But rise, and stand upon your feet:  for I have appeared unto you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of these things which you have seen, and of those things in the which I will (reveal) unto you; delivering you from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send you, to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them who are sanctified by faith that is in Me.  Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:  but showed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works (that show your) repentance."

JOHN AND PAUL WROTE OF THAT CHANGE

John 1:10-13 - "He (Jesus) was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not.  He came unto His own (people, the Jews), and His own received Him not.  But as many as received Him, to those gave He power to become the sons of God, even to those that believe on His name:  who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

Romans 11:25 - "For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in."

THANKS BE TO GOD THAT HE HAS MADE SALVATION AVAILABLE
TO WHOSOEVER WILL TRUST IN JESUS CHRIST THE LORD!
