MY THOUGHTS ON FIRST JOHN FIVE.

FIRST JOHN FIVE

[1] Whosoever (whether a Jew, or a Gentile) believes that Jesus is the Christ (the Anointed One of God; the Messiah) is born of God:  and everyone that loves Him Who begot (the Father), loves Him also that is begotten of Him (the Son).

[2] By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep His commandments.  [See "The Golden Rule" - Galatians 5:14]

[3] For this is the love of God (how we show our love for God), that we keep His commandments:  and His commandments are not grievous (not too burdensome; not too difficult to obey).

[4] For whomsoever is born of God overcomes the world:  and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.

[5] Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

[6] This is He that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood.  And it is the Spirit Who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.

[7] For there are three Who bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost:   and these three are one.

[8] And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood:  and these three agree in one.

[9] If we receive the witness of men, the Witness of God is greater:  for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son.

[10] He that believes on the Son of God has the Witness in himself:  he that believes not, God has made him (declared him)a liar; because he believes not the record that God gave of His Son.

[11] And this is the record, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

[12] He that has the Son has life; and he that has not the Son of God has not life.

[13] These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may (continue to) believe on the name of the Son of God.

THE LAW OF MOSES SERVES TWO PURPOSES:

[1] IT DEFINES WHAT GOD MEANS BY LOVE.
[2] IT REVEALS THAT WE ARE SINNERS IN NEED OF A SAVIOR.

THE LOVE OF GOD IS REVEALED IN THREE WAYS:

[1] GOD GAVE HIS SON TO PAY FOR OUR SINS.
[2] GOD'S MERCY FORGIVES OUR SINS.
[3] GOD'S GRACE GIVES BELIEVERS ETERNAL LIFE.
