REPENT: THE LORD'S MESSAGE TO THE JEWS!
Luke 13:1-5 - There were present at that season some that told Him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay: but, EXCEPT YE REPENT, YE SHALL ALL LIKEWISE PERISH. Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, EXCEPT YE REPENT, YE SHALL ALL LIKEWISE PERISH.
REPENT: HALF OF THE MESSAGE BELIEVERS WERE TO PREACH!
Luke 24:46-47 - And (Jesus) said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: and that REPENTANCE AND REMISSION OF SINS should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
REPENT: THE APOSTLE'S MESSAGE TO THE GENTILES!
Acts 17:9-31 - Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but NOW COMMANDS ALL MEN EVERYWHERE TO REPENT: because He has appointed a day, in which He will judge the world in righteousness by that Man Whom He has ordained; whereof He has given assurance unto all men, in that He has raised Him from the dead.
WHAT IS REPENTANCE?
To repent is to have a change of mind. The Greek word translated "repent" is metanoio. "Meta" means "to change," and "noio" means "one's mind, or way of thinking." Think of the word used to describe the change from a caterpillar to a butterfly: "metamorphosis." Here, the word "meta" means "to change," and "morphosis" means "form." So how does this apply to one being born again, or saved? The answer is found in the Gospel message!
THE GOSPEL: THE MESSAGE OF REMISSION
THAT CAN PRODUCE FAITH UNTO SALVATION!
Romans 1:16-17 - For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
1 Corinthians 15:1-6 - Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved . . . Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures: and that He was seen of Cephas (Peter), then of the twelve: after that, He was seen of above (more than) five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep (have died).
Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace (unmerited favor) are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.
SALVATION IS OFFERED TO WHOSOEVER BELIEVES THE GOSPEL!
Romans 10:9-13 - That if you shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, Whosoever believes in Him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Gentile: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
NOTE: While some say Romans 9-11 apply to only the Jews, this passage clearly shows that whosoever (Jew or Gentile) believes the Gospel message, will be saved!
REPENTANCE IS A CHANGE OF MIND ABOUT JESUS CHRIST!
IT IS THE REALIZATION THAT OUR LIVES ARE SINFUL,
AND THAT BELIEVING JESUS PAID FOR OUR SINS,
WILL RESULT IN OUR LOVING AND SERVING HIM!
WE LOVE HIM BECAUSE WE BELIEVE HE FIRST LOVED US!
