RIGHTEOUSNESS: The state of a person who is as God intended him or her to be. Holy. Just. Sinless. Pure. Only the righteous will live eternally with God.
THE PROBLEM: Other than Jesus Christ, God's Only Begotten Son, no one has ever been able to live a righteous life.
Isaiah 64:6 - But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Ezekiel 33:13 - When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.
Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
WE HAVE NO EXCUSE: Our conscience tells us that we are unworthy of God's love.
John 8:7-9 - So when they continued asking Him, He lifted up Himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again He stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
Romans 2:12-15 - For as many as have sinned without (not knowing the Mosaic) Law shall also perish without (in spite of not knowing the Mosaic) Law: and as many as have sinned in the Law shall be judged by the Law; for not the hearers of the Law are just before God, but the doers of the Law shall be justified. For when the Gentiles, who have not the Law, do by nature the things contained in the Law, these, having not the Law, are a law unto themselves: which shows the work of the Law (is) written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another.
REJECTION OF GOD RESULTS IS A "DISABLED CONSCIENCE."
Romans 1:19-28 - Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God has showed it unto them. For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, Who is blessed forever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient (acceptable to Him)!
1 Timothy 4:1-2 - Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron.
WE CANNOT EARN RIGHTEOUSNESS BY RELIGIOUS WORKS:
IT MUST BE ACCEPTED AS A GIFT FROM GOD!
Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.
John 3:15-16 - For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
Romans 5:17-18 - For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of One the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
2 Corinthians 5:20-21 - . . . we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. For He has made Him to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.
DO NOT TRUST IN YOUR OWN MERIT TO ENTER HEAVEN!
TRUST IS THE ONE WHO SAID, "I AM THE DOOR!" AND
"NO MAN COMES UNTO GOD BUT BY ME!":
JESUS CHRIST, THE ONLY LORD AND SAVIOR!
