RIGHTEOUSNESS DEFINED:
HOLINESS, PERFECTION, AS GOD WOULD HAVE ONE BE!
AN OXYMORON: SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS!
Luke 18:9-14 - And He spoke this parable unto certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee (a self-righteous religious leader), and the other a publican (a humble tax collector). The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank You, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified (declared righteous by God) rather than the other: for every one that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.
Romans 3:10 - As it is written, There is none (who are) righteous, no, not one!
Romans 10:1-3 - Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
GOD'S RIGHTEOUSNESS IS OFFERED TO ALL WHO TRUST HIM!
Matthew 6:33 - But seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness....
Romans 1:16-17 - For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes it; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek (Gentile). For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Romans 3:20-26 - Therefore by the deeds of the Law there shall no flesh be justified (declared righteous) in His sight: for by the Law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without (apart from) the Law is manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets; even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by His grace (unmerited favor) through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God has set forth to be a propitiation (payment in full) through faith in His blood, to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; to declare, I say, at this time His righteousness: that He might be just, and the justifier of him who believes in Jesus.
2 Corinthians 5:20-21 - Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray (beg) you in Christ's stead, be reconciled to God. For He has made Him to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.
2 Peter 2:1 - Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ....
GOD USES ABRAHAM'S EXAMPLE TO US THREE TIMES!
Romans 4:3 - For what do the Scriptures say? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
Galatians 3:6 - Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
James 2:23 - And the Scripture was fulfilled which said, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
PUT YOUR TRUST IN JESUS, AND ONE DAY, YOU WILL BE LIKE HIM!
1 John 3:1-2 - Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the children of God: therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now are we the children of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.
