CALCULATING THE DAY CHRIST'S CRUCIFIXION
[Counting Backward in Time from His Resurrection.]
CHRIST'S RESURRECTION FROM THE DEAD:
[Because the Spring Equinox occurs around the time of Passover each year, for calculating
purposes, we will use 6 p.m. for the time of sunset, and 6 a.m. for the time of sunrise.]
Matthew 28:1 - In the end of the Sabbath (6 p.m. Saturday), as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week (before 6 a.m. Sunday).
Mark 16:1-2 - And when the Sabbath was past (6 p.m. Saturday)...And very early in the morning the first day of the week ...at the rising of the sun (6 a.m. Sunday).
Luke 24:1 - Now upon the first day of the week (after 6 p.m. Saturday), very early in the morning (about 6 a.m. Sunday).
John 20:1 - The first day of the week...when it was yet dark (after 6 p.m. Saturday and before 6 a.m. Sunday).
Conclusion: Jesus rose sometime between 6 p.m. Saturday, and 6 a.m. Sunday!
CHRIST'S BURIAL WAS BEFORE THE PASSOVER:
Matthew 27:59-60, 62 - And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulcher, and departed. - - - Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation....
Mark 15:42, 46 - And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath - - - And (Joseph of Arimathaea) bought fine linen, and took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen, and laid Him in a sepulcher which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulcher.
Luke 23:53-54 - And (Joseph) took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulcher that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid. And that day was the preparation, and the Sabbath drew on.
John 18:28 - Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the Passover. [Note: At the time of the "trial of Jesus," the Passover had not yet come!]
John 19:31, 40, 42 - The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day (for that Sabbath day was an high day), besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. - - - Then took (Joseph and Nicodemus) the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury. - - - There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulcher was nigh at hand.
Conclusion: The "preparation day" was not for the weekly Sabbath, but was for Passover, a "high day!" In Leviticus 23, we learn that the Passover Lamb was to be killed and roasted before sunset on the 14th of Nisan, the first month in Israel's calendar. IT was the "preparation day" for the Feast of Unleavened Bread!
THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS, PUTS THE CRUCIFIXION ON
WEDNESDAY! THE MISTAKE THE CHURCH HAS MADE
IN CALLING THE DAY OF HIS DEATH, "GOOD FRIDAY," IS
SOLELY BASED UPON BELIEVING THE SABBATH WHICH
WAS APPROACHING, WAS THE WEEKLY SABBATH!
REGARDLESS OF THIS, THE IMPORTANT FACTS REMAIN: JESUS DIED
FOR OUR SINS ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES, HE WAS BURIED,
AND HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES.
BELIEVING THIS, RESULTS IN SALVATION!
