TURNING FROM SELF-WILL TO THE WILL OF GOD!

WHAT IS REPENTANCE?

The Greek word is μετανοέω.  Repentance is to have a change of one's way of thinking.  Repentance in the Bible involves turning from sin, and beginning a life in submission to the will of God [See Acts 20:21 below - notice one turns and has faith in the LORD].  Think of how a caterpillar changes into a beautiful butterfly through the process of metamorphosis.  When one hears the good news of the Gospel, and believes it, he or she gladly turns from sin, and to obedience to God.

REPENTANCE WAS TO BE PREACHED TO ISRAEL!

Matthew 4:17 - From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent:  for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Matthew 9:13 - But go ye and learn what that means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice:  for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Mark 1:15 - The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand:  repent ye, and believe the Gospel.

Mark 6:7, 12 - And He called unto Him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two - - - And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

Luke 5:32 - I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Luke 13:3, 5 - I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Luke 15:10 - Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repents.

REPENTANCE IS TO BE PREACHED DURING THE CHURCH AGE!

Luke 24:47 - And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem

Acts 2:38, 47 - Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. --- Praising God, and having favor with all the people.  And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Acts 20:21 - Testifying BOTH to the Jews, and also to the (Gentiles), repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 2:4 - Or despise thou the riches of His goodness and forbearance and long suffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leads thee to repentance?

2 Corinthians 7:10 - For godly sorrow works repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world works death.

2 Timothy 2:24-25 - And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth....

Hebrews 6:1 - Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God.

NO ONE CAN BE SAVED BY RELIGIOUS WORKS,
BUT THE SAVED DESIRE TO DO THE WILL OF GOD!
