THE PURPOSE OF THE LAW!
Romans 3:19-20, 23 - Now we know that whatsoever things the Law says, it says to those who are under the Law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty (become aware that they are guilty) before God. Therefore by the deeds of the Law there shall no flesh be justified in His sight: for by the Law is the knowledge of sin. - - - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
Romans 7:7 - What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the Law: for I had not known lust, except the Law had said, You shall not covet.
Galatians 3:19, 22 - Wherefore then serves (For what then is the purpose of) the Law? It was added because of transgressions (sins) - - - But the Scripture has concluded all under sin. . . .
THE THREE CATEGORIES OF SIN!
Sins of Commission - Thoughts, Words, and Deeds!
Proverbs 23:7 - For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. . . .
Matthew 5:28 - But I say unto you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Matthew 12:37 - For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.
John 3:20 - For every one that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
Sins of Omission - Failure to obey the Spirit's leading!
Matthew 25:42-45 - For I was an hungry, and you gave Me no meat: I was thirsty, and you gave Me no drink: I was a stranger, and you took Me not in: naked, and you clothed Me not: sick, and in prison, and you visited Me not. Then shall they also answer Him, saying, Lord, when saw we You hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto You? Then shall He answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to Me.
James 4:17 - Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.
The Unpardonable Sin - Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit!
Matthew 12:22-32 - Then was brought unto Him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and He healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both saw and spoke. And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David? But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow does not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: and if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? And then he will spoil his house. He that is not with Me is against Me; and he that gathers not with Me scatters abroad. Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaks against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
Note: Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit, cast out the devil as evidence (a sign) of His identity (the Jews require a sign - 1 Cor. 1:22). Rather than acknowledge Jesus as their Messiah, they attributed the work of the Holy Spirit to that of Satan. That is blasphemy, because it is rejecting the Holy Spirit's conviction of them as sinners (John 16:8-11)! Since salvation is the work of the Holy Spirit through the power of the Gospel message (Rom. 1:16-17; 1 Cor. 15:1-6), it is rejection of Christ's substitutionary death for them; therefore, they will die in their sins.
John. 8:28 - I said therefore unto you, that you shall die in your sins: for if you believe not that I am (he), you shall die in your sins. (The word "he" is not in the original Greek text.)
JESUS PAID FOR THE SINS OF COMMISSION AND OMISSION ON THE CROSS!
THE REJECTION OF HIM IS THE REJECTION OF THAT SACRIFICE!
