BEING SAVED IS A STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS

STEP ONE - I NEED TO BE AWARE THAT I AM A SINNER!

John 16:8-9 - "And when He (the Holy Spirit) is come, He will reprove (convict - see Jn. 8:9) the world of sin...because they believe not in Me (Jesus Christ, the Son of God)."
Romans 3:10 - "...There is none righteous (holy), no, not one...."
Romans 3:23 - "...all have sinned...."
Romans 5:12 - "...all have sinned...."

STEP TWO - I NEED TO KNOW MY ONLY HOPE IS IN THE LORD JESUS!

John 8:24 - "I said...if you believe not that I AM, you shall die in your sins."
John 14:6 - "Jesus said unto him, I AM The Way...no man comes unto the Father, but by Me."
Romans 5:6, 8 - "...Christ died for the ungodly....God commended (demonstrated) His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

STEP THREE A - I NEED TO REPENT OF SIN!

Acts 3:19 - "Repent therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out...." 
Acts 20:21 - "Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Gentiles, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ."
26:19-20 - "...I...showed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance."

STEP THREE B - BELIEVE THE GOSPEL AND TURN TO FAITH IN GOD!

Romans 1:16 - "...the Gospel of Christ...is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes...."
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 - "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached...that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures...."John 3:14-16 - "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:  that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.  For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Romans 10:13 - "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God."
Ephesians 2:8-9 - "For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  not of works, lest any man should boast."

BOTTOM LINE:  THE UNSAVED HEAR AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL, 
                                WHICH BRINGS THEM TO REPENTANCE AND
                                FAITH IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST!
