JUST BECAUSE JESUS CAN, DOESN'T MEAN HE WILL!

THE JEWS REQUIRE A SIGN TO BELIEVE 

1 Corinthians 1:22 - "For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom...."

THE SIGNS JESUS DID TO VERIFY HIS IDENTITY

Matthew 11:2-5 - "Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, and said unto Him, Art Thou He that should come, or do we look for another?  Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and show John again those things which you do hear and see:  the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the Gospel preached to them."

JAIRUS' DAUGHTER RAISED 

Matthew 9:18-19, 23-26 - "While He spoke these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped Him, saying, My daughter is even now dead:  but come and lay Your hand upon her, and she shall live.  And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did His disciples....
And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, He said unto them, Give place:  for the maid is not dead, but sleeps.  And they laughed Him to scorn.  But when the people were put forth, He went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.  And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land."

THE WIDOW'S SON

Luke 7:11-17 - "And it came to pass the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and much people.  Now when He came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow:  and much people of the city were with her.  And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.  And He came and touched the bier:  and they that bare him stood still.  And He said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.  And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak.  And He delivered him to his mother.  And there came a fear on all:  and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited His people.  And this rumor of Him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about."

LAZARUS

John 11:1-7, 11-15, 32-45 - "Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.  (It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)  Therefore his sisters sent unto Him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.  When Jesus heard that, He said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.  Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.  When He had heard therefore that he was sick, He abode two days still in the same place where He was.  Then after that He said to His disciples, Let us go into Judaea again....
These things said He:  and after that He said unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.  Then said His disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.  Howbeit Jesus spoke of his death:  but they thought that He had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.  Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.  And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent you may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him....
Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw Him, she fell down at His feet, saying unto Him, Lord, if You had been here, my brother (would not have) died.  When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping who came with her, He groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, and said, Where have you laid him?  They said unto Him, Lord, come and see.  Jesus wept.  Then said the Jews, Behold how He loved him!  And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?  Jesus therefore again groaning in Himself went to the grave.  It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.  Jesus said, Take away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, said unto Him, Lord, by this time he stinks: for he hath been dead four days.  Jesus said unto her, Said I not unto you, that, if you would believe, you would see the glory of God?  Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up His eyes, and said, Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.  And I knew that You hear Me always:  but because of the people which stand by, I said it, that they may believe that You have sent Me.  And when He thus had spoken, He cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth!  And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes:  and his face was bound about with a napkin.  Jesus said unto them, Loose him, and let him go.  Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on Him."

QUESTION:  IF JESUS COULD RAISE THE DEAD, WHY DIDN'T HE RAISE JOHN?

ANSWER:  JOHN'S WORK WAS FINISHED!
