GENUINE DISCIPLES STILL SHARE THE GOSPEL!

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE ONE'S DISCIPLE

Easton's Bible Dictionary - A scholar, sometimes applied to the followers of John the Baptist (Mt. 9:14), and of the Pharisees (Mt. 22:16), but principally to the followers of Christ. A disciple of Christ is one who (1) believes His doctrine, (2) rests on His sacrifice, (3) imbibes His Spirit, and (4) imitates His example (Mt. 10:24; Lk. 14:26, 27, 33; Jn. 6:69).

Webster's 1828 Dictionary - 1. A learner; a scholar; one who receives or professes to receive instruction from another; as the disciples of Plato. 2. A follower; an adherent to the doctrines of another. Hence the constant attendants of Christ were called His disciples; and hence all Christians are called His disciples, as they profess to learn and receive His doctrines and precepts. JESUS CHOSE DISCIPLES BUT HE CALLS FOR ALL TO BE HIS DISCIPLES

Matthew 4:19 - "And He saith unto them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men."
Matthew 8:22 - "But Jesus said unto him, Follow Me; and let the dead bury their dead."
Matthew 9:9 - "And as Jesus passed forth from thence, He saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom:  and He saith unto him, Follow Me.  And he arose, and followed Him."
Matthew 16:24 - "Then said Jesus unto His disciples, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."
Matthew 19:21 - "Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven:  and come and follow Me."

Mark 2:14 - "And as He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow Me.  And he arose and followed Him."
Mark 8:34 - "And when He had called the people unto Him with His disciples also, He said unto them, Whosoever will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."
Mark 10:21 - "Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest:  go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow Me."

Luke 5:27 - "And after these things He went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom:  and He said unto him, Follow Me."
Luke 9:23 - "And He said to them all, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me."
Luke 9:59 - "And He said unto another, Follow Me.  But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father."
Luke 18:22 - "Now when Jesus heard these things, He said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing:  sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven:  and come, follow Me."

John 1:43 - "The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow Me."
John 10:27 - "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me...."
John 12:26 - "If any man serve Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there shall also My servant be:  if any man serve Me, him will My Father honor."
John 13:36 - "Simon Peter said unto Him, Lord, whither goest Thou?  Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow Me now; but thou shalt follow Me afterwards."
John 21:19 - "This spake He, signifying by what death he should glorify God.  And when He had spoken this, He saith unto him, Follow Me."

DISCIPLES SPREAD THE GOSPEL AND THEIR NUMBERS GREW

Acts 1:15 - "And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty)...."
Acts 6:7 - "And the Word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith."

Romans 1:16 - "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ:  for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the (Gentile)."

1 Corinthians 15:1, 3-4 - "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand - - - For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures...."
